Building the V Rising Website — A Gothic Survival Game Gets a Sharp Online Presence

V Rising made waves with its unique blend of gothic style, survival mechanics, and online multiplayer gameplay — and when I got the opportunity to build the official website, I knew this project would be something special. It wasn’t just about showing off another survival game — this was vampires, castles, and stylish combat. The site needed to match that energy and mystery.

This project came together with a clear vision from the team and a strong sense of identity already baked into the game. My role was to give V Rising a web presence that reflected the tone of the world, supported content updates, and made it easy for players (and press) to connect with the game.

The Mission

The goals for the V Rising website were focused and ambitious:

  • Introduce the world of V Rising to new and returning players

  • Match the dark, dramatic visual style of the game

  • Support trailers, news, store links, and press resources

  • Make it easy to update over time as the game evolved

  • Provide a solid foundation for future expansions and community content

It had to be immersive, but also clean and functional — a digital extension of the game's world.

Design & Collaboration

As with many of my favorite projects, the design was handled by Mike Heald at Fully Illustrated. The design leaned into rich, shadowy textures, red and black accents, and elegant gothic typography — the perfect visual expression of V Rising’s dark fantasy world.

My job was to take that design and translate it into a performant, accessible website that felt immersive without sacrificing usability.

The Build

For the stack, I went with:

  • Nuxt 3 — modern, fast, and flexible for a highly visual build

  • Storyblok — a headless CMS that gave the client full control over content updates

  • Netlify — for fast deployment and rock-solid hosting

This setup ensured fast load times, strong SEO, and a smooth experience across all devices.

Key Features

  • A bold, cinematic homepage with game trailers and hero art

  • A Game Overview section highlighting key features, lore, and visuals

  • CMS-driven News and Press Kit pages for ongoing updates and media support

  • Platform and purchase links across PC and consoles

  • Responsive design optimized for performance without losing detail or visual flair

Every section was built as a modular component so the V Rising team could easily expand or update content as the game evolved.

Why It Stands Out

V Rising has a very specific mood — dark, powerful, and refined. The site needed to reflect that without feeling heavy or overcomplicated. What I enjoyed most about this project was balancing those visual elements with the technical challenge of keeping everything light, responsive, and easy to manage.

It also marked another collaboration with a team that truly values quality — from game design to web presence — and that always makes the work even more rewarding.

Final Thoughts

The V Rising website was a great reminder that strong design and thoughtful development go hand in hand. It was a chance to support a game that’s carving out its own niche in the survival genre — and do it with a site that reflects the same level of care and attention.

If your game has atmosphere, depth, and a story to tell, I’d love to help bring that to the web.
