Building the Threads of Time Website: A Dream Project for a Classic RPG Fan
As a lifelong fan of games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and more recently Sea of Stars, getting to work on the official website for Threads of Time by Riyo Games was an absolute dream. This wasn’t just another client project — it was a love letter to the kinds of games that made me fall in love with the medium in the first place.
So when I got the call to help bring the online presence of Threads of Time to life, I was genuinely hyped. The pixel art, the music, the atmosphere — this was a project that hit me right in the nostalgia, and I was all in from day one.
The Goal
Riyo Games needed a website that would:
Introduce the world of Threads of Time to new fans
Reflect the tone, art style, and classic RPG inspirations behind the game
Tease gameplay and story elements while leaving room to grow leading up to launch
Provide media, wishlist links, and press assets
Support future content updates with minimal dev overhead
It needed to feel like part of the game’s universe — not just a marketing page.
Design & Direction
As with many of my projects, the design came from Mike Heald at Fully Illustrated. He perfectly captured the magic of classic RPGs with a modern twist — soft gradients, glowing UI elements, rich pixel art backgrounds, and a layout that felt like a page out of an old instruction manual (but in the best way possible).
It was full of charm and character, and I couldn’t wait to bring it to life in code.
The Tech Stack
The site was built using:
Nuxt 3 for the frontend — perfect for fast, smooth navigation and SEO
Storyblok for content — so the Riyo team can manage updates without touching code
Netlify for fast, secure hosting and simple deployment
This setup gave us a great balance of performance, flexibility, and future-proofing.
Key Features
A stunning homepage that sets the tone with key art, story teasers, and platform info
A CMS-powered Game Overview section to showcase the game’s mechanics, world, and characters
A Media & Press Kit section for downloadable assets and trailers
Dynamic wishlist callouts and email capture for early interest
Smooth animations and transitions that echo the feel of a classic JRPG menu
All of it was built to scale — so as the game nears launch, the team can expand the site easily with dev logs, update notes, and more.
Why This One Meant So Much
I’ve worked on a lot of amazing game sites, but Threads of Time felt personal. It’s exactly the kind of game I grew up loving, and helping it find its audience through a beautifully built site was genuinely fulfilling.
Getting to combine nostalgia with modern tech — and to support a team that’s clearly pouring their heart into this title — made this project one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had.
Final Thoughts
Threads of Time is shaping up to be something really special, and I’m incredibly proud to have played a small part in its journey. If you’re building a game with soul — especially one that calls back to the golden age of RPGs — I’d love to help bring that vision to life online.
