Building for The MIX — My First Step Into Indie Games

Before Satisfactory, before Valheim, and all the big-name titles I’ve had the chance to work on, there was The MIX — the Media Indie Exchange. This was my introduction to the indie games world, and it was the beginning of what would become a long-standing partnership built on shared passion, creative freedom, and a deep love for showcasing great games.

The MIX has always been about elevating indie talent — giving developers a platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated. For me, getting to build the first of many websites for The MIX wasn’t just another client project — it was a turning point in my career.

How It Started

My first project with The MIX was the Guerrilla Collective — an ambitious digital showcase launched during the height of the COVID pandemic when in-person events were off the table. The goal was to bring dozens of indie games together into one online experience, complete with trailers, livestreams, filters, and developer info.

It was bold, fast-paced, and a little chaotic — and I loved every second of it.

What I didn’t know at the time was that this project would lead to years of collaboration across a wide range of showcases and events.

A Growing Partnership

Since that first project, I’ve gone on to build and maintain websites for a variety of The MIX’s events and initiatives, including:

  • Black Voices in Gaming

  • DIGY (Dope Indie Game Awards)

  • Guerrilla Collective (multiple editions)

  • Dames 4 Games

  • ...and more in the pipeline

Each event has its own personality, goals, and audience — and I’ve worked closely with the team to create flexible, modular sites that can scale, evolve, and stay fresh every time.

The Tech Behind It

For every site I build with The MIX, I use a modern Jamstack setup that makes it easy to update, easy to scale, and fast to load:

  • Nuxt 3 for performance and flexibility

  • Storyblok for content management — so the team can update game listings, press links, livestream info, and more

  • Netlify for quick deployments and reliable uptime, even during major showcase traffic

The result is a system that supports rapid content updates and seasonal showcases without needing to rebuild from scratch every time.

Why It Still Matters

Working with The MIX wasn’t just my entry point into indie gaming — it was the project that helped shape the kind of work I wanted to do. It taught me how much I enjoy building for passionate creators and communities. It introduced me to dozens of developers doing incredible work. And it showed me that a good website can have just as much heart as the games it’s promoting.

Final Thoughts

The MIX has been a consistent, meaningful part of my journey as a developer. They trusted me early on, and together we’ve built sites that celebrate the diversity, energy, and creativity of indie games. It’s the kind of work I’ll never get tired of doing.

If you’re running a digital showcase, building a community platform, or looking to elevate indie creators — I’d love to help bring your vision to life online.
