Building the Marvel Cosmic Invasion website with Dotemu — A Dream Come True
Some projects hit a little differently — and Marvel Cosmic Invasion was one of those. I’ve been a Marvel fan pretty much my entire life, so getting to help bring a Marvel game to life alongside the team at Dotemu? That’s a bucket-list moment.
I’ve had the chance to work with Dotemu on several projects before — Metal Slug Tactics, Absolum, and Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes — and each one has been a blast. But this one felt special. There’s just something surreal about opening a design and seeing Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Rocket Raccoon staring back at you.
The Collaboration
Dotemu’s projects are always packed with energy, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion was no exception. I teamed up once again with Fully Illustrated, who handled the site’s design, while I focused on bringing everything to life in the build. The goal was simple: make the site feel like a living, breathing comic book. Every scroll, transition, and hover needed that punchy, kinetic feel that Marvel fans expect.
The Creative Direction
Fully Illustrated absolutely nailed the design direction — bold comic-style panels, halftone textures, and those iconic color pops that scream Marvel. My job was to make sure every one of those visual ideas translated perfectly to the web. The site had to feel big and cinematic, but still smooth and responsive on every device.
The Technical Side
Under the hood, I built the site with Nuxt and Storyblok, with GSAP powering all the motion. Getting those animations to feel fluid while keeping performance tight was the fun part — especially with massive assets and layered effects in play. I spent a lot of time optimizing transitions and scroll-based interactions so the experience felt seamless no matter what device you were on.
The Fan Moment
Every project has that one moment that hits you. For me, it was seeing the final build come together — the heroes assembled, the animations firing, and that unmistakable Marvel vibe radiating from the screen. Twelve-year-old me would’ve absolutely lost it. Honestly, grown-up me did too.
The Launch
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is live now, and I couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out. Massive thanks to Dotemu for trusting me once again and to Fully Illustrated for delivering another stunning design. As a lifelong Marvel fan, getting to help bring this one to life was something I’ll never forget.
