Building the Coffee Stain Studios Website: A Central Hub for a Creative Powerhouse

After working with Coffee Stain on multiple game websites — including Satisfactory, Goat Simulator 3, and Valheim — it was a real privilege to take on their main studio website. This was more than just a showcase of titles; it was about creating a digital home that represented the heart of the studio itself.

Coffee Stain isn’t your typical game company. They’ve carved out a unique space in the industry with a portfolio that ranges from hilarious chaos to deeply immersive worlds. The studio site needed to reflect that mix of creativity, humor, and serious game development talent — all in one cohesive experience.

The Goal

The new site needed to:

  • Introduce Coffee Stain to new audiences and potential collaborators

  • Showcase the full range of games they’ve developed and published

  • Provide clear paths for press, job seekers, and developers

  • Maintain the brand’s personality while delivering clarity and polish

It was part company profile, part portfolio, part press hub — and it had to do it all with a clean, engaging presentation.

Design & Collaboration

Design once again came from Mike Heald at Fully Illustrated, who brought a playful but structured aesthetic that suited Coffee Stain perfectly. The site needed to balance character with professionalism — something that sounds simple, but requires a lot of finesse in practice.

This was a studio with multiple teams, multiple projects, and multiple audiences. The design needed to work for all of them, and Mike’s work set the tone beautifully.

The Build

I approached the build with my standard modern stack:

  • Nuxt 3 for performance, routing, and smooth client-side navigation

  • Storyblok for content management — ideal for a site with lots of sections and varied content

  • Netlify for fast, reliable hosting and continuous deployment

Key features included:

  • A clean, expandable games portfolio — covering both development and publishing titles

  • A careers section designed to attract top talent with an easy-to-manage CMS layout

  • A press-friendly media section with downloadable assets and trailers

  • Custom components for things like team bios, contact forms, and dev updates

The entire site was built to scale, both in terms of traffic and content. Coffee Stain can easily add new games, update team pages, or post news without needing dev support.

Why It Stands Out

What made this project special wasn’t just the studio’s legacy — it was the chance to help them tell their story in one place. With so many big titles under their belt, they needed a site that could unify everything while staying true to their voice.

From a development standpoint, it was about taking everything I’d learned from their individual game sites and applying that to a broader, more flexible foundation.

Final Thoughts

Coffee Stain has always been a creatively bold studio, and building their main website was a genuine highlight. It brought together design, tech, and storytelling in a way that felt natural — and that’s always the goal.
